Cantilevered Tales

Review of book by Jayant Kripalani
-Susan Sharma

Santragachhi Lake attracted nearly 8000 migratory birds this year as per reports.

"Cantilevered Tales" is a fictional tale of how this lake in the midst of a busy metropolis escaped "development".

Rather than going into environmentalist jargon, which, I believe tend to put off "normal" people, Jayant has gone on to create real life characters who helped save the lake, just because they loved the lake.

In writing the book, Jayant has drawn upon his experiences in the advertising world and the years of friendship with Bittu Sahgal (Sanctuary Asia magazine).  I had the opportunity to listen to a book reading arranged by Quill and Canvas, Gurgaon,  where the author recollected the experience of writing his second book.

Jayant's characters amuse, amaze, thrill and bond with the common man.  The melee he throws up may look like an unlikely bunch of people who can come together on a common platform.  But then, nature unites and nature lovers may speak divergently on many issues but will speak with one voice when it comes to protecting a beloved lake.

Worth a read for all nature lovers, fiction lovers and collectors!
