More teeth to forest, police acts soon: IGP (November Week #5 (2014))
Inspector General of Police (Rayalaseema) V. Venugopala Krishna on Sunday said that proposals to amend the acts pertaining to Forest and Police Departments to tackle the red sanders smuggling in Rayalaseema were under process with the State Chief Secretary.

Nepal poachers on prowl, tiger numbers down (November Week #5 (2014)) The survey, done every four years by the National Tiger Conservation Authority with Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India, shows tiger numbers in the Shivalik-Gangetic plains covering the three states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have come

Dutch to kill 8,000 ducks to prevent bird flu outbreak (November Week #5 (2014))
AMSTERDAM: Dutch health authorities on Saturday were destroying 8,000 ducks to prevent the possible spread of bird flu, which has infected three farms in a week in the Netherlands, a leading poultry and egg exporter.

A government statement said ducks were being culled in the central town of Barneveld as a precaution because authorities want to eliminate all risks after the H5N8 virus spread to three out of 12 provinces since last Sunday.

Kolhapur Municipal Corporation waste-to-energy plant to come up in phases (November Week #5 (2014))
The civic body has cancelled its plan to set up the proposed 180-tonne waste-to-energy plant and is instead planning to start the unit in two phases - first, by setting up a facility to treat 100 tonnes of garbage and in the second start treating the remaining
80 tonnes, provided the first one is successful.

The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) took this decision after the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board on Tuesday doubting the feasibility of the project to generate electricity from municipal solid waste.

Delhiā€™s pollution woes: More than 15-year-old vehicles not permitted to ply (November Week #5 (2014))
Dismayed at increasing air pollution in the national capital, the National Green Tribunal on Wednesday held that all vehicles that were more than 15 years old would not be permitted to ply on the city roads.

A bench, headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar, also directed that wherever such vehicles of this age are noticed, the concerned authorities shall take appropriate steps in accordance with law including seizure of the vehicles.
