If wearing anti-pollution masks is a sign of protest, Beijing citizens were out protesting on Tuesday.

Beijing municipal authorities were aware of the heavy breathing -- the highest alert for smog, the “red” alert – the first time it was deployed since inception in early 2013 — was on and in rare announcements in public transport systems, authorities advised
people to stay indoors.

DEHRADUN: In a big blow to Ganga beach camp owners who were hoping for a reprieve, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday upheld its ban on beach camping near the river from Kaudiyala to Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, an order which it had passed in
March.

New Delhi: In a unique feat, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday pronounced 56 judgments, disposing 209 cases relating to pollution in Ganga river and banning crop burning across the nation, among others.

Pulling up official agencies for failing to curb pollution in the capital, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Wednesday directed the Delhi government to identify “critically polluted areas” so that “immediate advisories” can be issued to the public by Thursday.

IN THE last three years, there has been a dip in city’s air quality with scientists at the System of Air Quality Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) flashing the ‘red colour code’ on its index. The red code indicates the areas where air quality is considered
dangerous. Despite the alarming indication, there has been no systematic effort to study the health impact of those being exposed to the polluted air— a worrying fact that comes forth ahead of the National Pollution Control Day, which falls on December 2.
