Udaipur city is situated 598 meters above sea level in the southern part of the Indian state, Rajasthan. It has an area of 37 square kilometres and is located on the southern slope of the mighty Aravalli hills which separates the city from the Thar desert. Northern Udaipur comprises of plateaus while the eastern side of the city has vast fertile plains. The southern part of this beautiful city comprises of rocks, hills and forests.

With a population of more than half a million people, the city is one of the treasures of the country. From sites of architectural marvel and great historical significance to beautiful scenic locations that celebrate nature, there is no shortage of tourist spots in the city.

Places to Visit in Udaipur:-

1.LAKE PALACE :- Enjoy a heritage walk to the city palace, which houses eleven huge medieval style palaces. The construction of City palace, which is considered to be the royal possession of Rajput, started under the reign of Maharana Udai Singh II.Located off Lake Pichola and overlooking some of the major landmarks of the city, sightseeing in Udaipur would be incomplete without visiting the impressive City Palace.

With its history beginning right when the Mewars shifted their capital to Udaipur, the complex features contributions by several generations of rulers, making it one of the prime locations for studying the history and architecture of the Mewar reign.


2. JAG MANDIR :- Built by the ruler Maharana Jagat Singh, the Jagat Mandir is a beautiful palace constructed in the 17th century. Often referred to as Jagmandir, it is named after the leader that completed it. Located on an island of the pristine Lake Pichola, it was believed to have been used as a pleasure palace and a summer resort by the Mewar. Experience the best of Rajasthani architecture and benevolence at Jag Mandir. Located amidst the Lake Pichola, this fine structure seems like a marble floating in a lake. It is named as "Jagat Mandir" in honor of Maharana Jagat Singh and, also known as the "Lake Garden Palace".

3. LAKE PICHOLA :-Not only does this lake house several landmarks on its islands, but it was also the reason why Udaipur was chosen by Maharaja Udai Singh to be the new capital of the Mewar. Major locations that are situated on its islands include the Lake Palace, which was the place for the James Bond film Octopussy, the Jagmandir, the Mohan Mandir and the Arsi Vilas.

4. SAHELIYON KI BARI :-The name of this garden, Saheliyon ki Bari, literally translates to ‘Garden of the Maidens.’ It was constructed for the forty-eight maidens that accompanied one of them to be queens of the kingdom at the time of her marriage, as a part of the dowry.Witness the lavish lifestyle of the royal ladies at Saheliyon ki Bari. There are pools, lily ponds, flowers, marble fountains, flowers, etc. It was built by Maharana Sangram Singh in the 18th century to please his princess. The garden has four pools ornated with delicately chiselled kiosks, elephants in marble (each elephant sculptured out of a single piece of stone) and lions carved out of marble serving the purpose of the fountain which creates the royal picture of the bygone era.

5.Fateh Sagar Lake :- This lake, along with the Lake Pichola and two other lakes, is one of the key locations in the city of Udaipur, as it is the central element to the famed City of Lakes. It is named after the Mewar ruler who created it by constructing the Connaught Dam after the original dam which formed the lake was washed away over the years. The beautiful lake also houses tourist attractions on its islands, making it an attractive location for sightseeing in Udaipur. It houses the world-famous Udaipur Solar Observatory on one of its islands and the Nehru Park on another. The third island also has a public park which is known for its water jet fountains. 

With the hills providing a beautiful backdrop for the lake, it is one of the most scenic locations in the city and a must for places to visit in Udaipur.
