As it’s always better to plan ahead, I booked my slot for the Brahmatal Trek with
Himalayan Dream Treks (HDT) three months in advance. Ending the year with a Himalayan adventure had been my dream, and this trek promised just the right mix of snow, serene lakes, and alpine meadows. During those three months, I obsessed over every
detail—gear, trail information, and tips for first-time trekkers. By the end of 2016, I was ready, not just in spirit but physically and mentally, for this Himalayan escapade.
Day 1: Rishikesh to Lohajung – The Journey Begins
The day began with an early morning train to Rishikesh. From there, a 10-hour drive awaited me to reach
Lohajung, the base camp of the Brahmatal Trek. The vehicle ride was a dream in itself—the landscape gradually changing from the plains to rolling hills, rivers glistening in the sunlight, and the first distant peaks of the Himalayas teasing
the skyline.
Reaching Lohajung felt surreal. The crisp mountain air, the smell of pine, and the excitement of fellow trekkers created an electric atmosphere. That evening was spent organizing gear, chatting with new friends, and mentally preparing for
the trek ahead. Sleep came early, but dreams were full of alpine meadows, frozen lakes, and snow-capped summits.
Day 2: Lohajung to Bekaltal – Into the Wilderness
We began trekking through dense oak and rhododendron forests, with the earthy scent of pine in the air. The trail gradually ascended, offering glimpses of snow-dusted peaks and distant valleys. Children from nearby villages waved as we passed,
adding a warm human touch to the wilderness.
By early afternoon, we reached Bekaltal Lake, our campsite for the night. The serene lake mirrored the sky, and the surrounding mountains reflected perfectly in its icy waters. I spent the evening walking by the lake, feeling completely
at peace. Dinner under a starry sky and the cold mountain air made sleep feel like the warmest hug.
Day 3: Bekaltal to Brahmatal – The Heart of the Trek
This day was special—it brought us closer to the summit. The trek took us through snow-covered trails, eventually reaching
Jhandi Top, which offered panoramic views of Mount Trishul and
Nanda Ghunti. Every step in the snow felt like walking into a painting, with the mountains standing tall around us like silent guardians.
By afternoon, we arrived at Brahmatal Base Camp, near the frozen lake. The sight of the snow-clad lake and surrounding peaks was magical. That evening, I joined a small acclimatization walk to a nearby ridge. The night was freezing, but
the warmth of camaraderie and the glow of headlamps across tents made it special.
Day 4: Brahmatal Summit – Conquering the Heights
The day of the summit began before sunrise. After a quick breakfast and some hot tea, we packed light day bags and started the final ascent. The trail was challenging, with steep snowfields and icy stretches, but the motivation of reaching the top kept spirits
high.
Reaching the Brahmatal Summit was indescribable. The panoramic 360-degree views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks—snowy ridges, alpine meadows, and frozen lakes—made every ache and tired muscle worth it. I paused for a moment, just breathing
in the cold, crisp air and feeling humbled by the vastness of nature. After half an hour of celebration and photographs, we descended slowly, mindful of altitude and safety.
By evening, we were back at Brahmatal Base Camp, exhausted but exhilarated. Sharing dinner with fellow trekkers and recounting moments from the summit, I felt a profound sense of accomplishment.
Day 5: Brahmatal to Lohajung – Reflections on the Trek
The trek back to Lohajung was leisurely but reflective. We walked past the frozen lake, alpine meadows, and dense forests, soaking in the landscapes that had challenged and inspired us. At one point, a view of
Mount Trishul made everyone stop mid-trail—there was a silent awe in the group, as if we were collectively acknowledging the grandeur of the mountains.
By afternoon, we reached Lohajung, where hot water and warm meals awaited. That night, the trek organizers distributed certificates for completing the Brahmatal Trek. Holding that certificate, I realized that this journey had been more than
physical—it had been a journey of self-discovery and resilience.
Day 6: Farewell – Memories to Carry Forever
A 10-hour drive back to Rishikesh marked the end of this journey. As the mountains slowly receded behind us, I reflected on every laugh, struggle, and moment of wonder. The Brahmatal Trek had offered serenity, adventure, and life lessons—all rolled into
six unforgettable days.
This trek is ideal for first-time trekkers—an easy to moderate level trek of 5 nights and 6 days, that’s both accessible and rewarding. For seasoned trekkers, it’s a chance to reconnect with the Himalayan wilderness, walk on snowfields,
and witness alpine lakes at their frozen best.
