Pench National Park has a fascinating history closely connected with the forests and wildlife of central India. The region was historically used by local communities and later became known for its rich forests, diverse wildlife, and scenic Pench River. The History of Pench became especially popular because the landscape is believed to have inspired Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Pench was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1977 and later received national park status in 1983. In 1992, it was included under Project Tiger, giving greater protection to its growing tiger population. Today, Pench Tiger Reserve is spread across parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and is known for tigers, leopards, wild dogs, deer, and many bird species. Its combination of history, forests, and wildlife makes Pench an important destination for nature and safari enthusiasts.
