Posted by Philibhit on September 14, 2026

Pilibhit Tiger Reserve has a fascinating history connected with the forests and wildlife of the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh. Before receiving tiger reserve status, the area was known for its dense sal forests, grasslands, wetlands, and rich wildlife. Pilibhit Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1977 to protect the region’s important habitats and wildlife. Later, the area gained greater importance for tiger conservation and was declared a tiger reserve in 2014 under Project Tiger. The History of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve reflects the region’s long journey from a protected forest landscape to an important tiger conservation area. Today, the reserve is known for its Bengal tigers, leopards, swamp deer, elephants, and diverse birdlife. Its forests, rivers, and grasslands continue to provide an important habitat for wildlife while attracting nature lovers and safari visitors.
