The Kashmir Himalayas offer unmatched trekking variety alpine lakes, glacier valleys, high passes, and quiet villages. Below is a complete heading-to-heading guide covering the major treks in the region with brief information and best season.


Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

A classic high altitude trail linking multiple blue alpine lakes with vast meadows and snowy passes. Best from July to September, this moderate-to-difficult trek is known for nonstop scenery and dramatic campsites.

Tarsar Marsar Trek

A beautiful valley and lakes trek featuring pine forests, quiet villages, and two famous alpine lakes. best time July to September, it suits trekkers who want nature with cultural touches.

Nundkol & Gangbal Trek

This trek leads to two high lakes below Mount Harmukh. With rocky terrain and big mountain views, it’s best done between July and September and is rated moderate.

Satsar Lakes Trek

Remote and challenging, this trek explores a chain of lesser-known alpine lakes. July to September is the only safe season due to snow and altitude.

Vishansar–Kishansar Trek

Shorter but stunning, this route showcases twin high-altitude lakes connected by green valleys. Best in mid-summer when passes are snow-free.

Aharbal–Kousarnag Trek

Gurez Valley Trek

Lidder Valley Trek

One of the easiest Kashmir trails with forests, rivers, and mountain backdrops. Suitable from June to September.

Sindh Valley Trek

A calm valley trek with streams and glacier views, best in summer for beginners.

Doodhpatri–Tosa Maidan Trek

Wide green landscapes and gentle walking make this a great July–September trek for nature lovers.


Kolhoi Glacier Trek

A short adventure trek near Pahalgam leading to a glacier base. July to September is the best time.

Marchoi Trek

A rugged wilderness trail from Naranag with alpine camps. Best in summer months.

Margan Top Trek

A high pass connecting to Warwan Valley, known for weather shifts and steep climbs. Best done between July and September.

Best Time to Trek in Kashmir

The ideal trekking season is July to September, when trails are open, weather is stable, and lakes are fully visible. June marks early season with some snow remaining on higher trails. October is colder with chances of snowfall. From November to May, most treks remain closed due to heavy snow and unsafe conditions.
