Himachal Pradesh’s vulture breeding and conservation programme is showing encouraging results with white-rumped vultures making a comeback in the state’s Kangra district.

Once declared as critically endangered species with a decline of 95 per cent of its population, around 175 birds sighting have been reported in the district.

NAGPUR: The union highways and transport ministry headed by Nitin Gadkari and environment ministry by Prakash Javadekar seem headed for a face-off over wildlife mitigation measures in four-laning of NH-7 and NH-6 in the Central Indian landscape.

The latest report on proposed mitigation measures for maintaining habitat contiguity and reducing wild animal mortality between Mansar-Khawasa (37km) on NH-7 and Marhamjob-Mundipaar on NH6 submitted by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Wildlife
Institute of India (WII) is not acceptable to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

BATHINDA: After a wait of over one-and-a-half year, the BirTalab Deer Park has got the nod from Central Zoo Authority of India (CZAI) to add tiger safari in its area spread over 145 acres.

The CZAI has granted the permission for tiger safari and a proposal for Rs 12 crore has been sent to the Punjab government wherein enclosures for tigers and leopards will be made. A pair each of tiger and leopard will be added to the zoo. Also an interpretation
centre is being set up in the deer park to enable visitors have a closer look at the wildlife.
