A promising project, as declared by the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1997, the garden was designed for the conservation, research and awareness about rare plant species in India. However, in 2008 due to expansion of metro 31 acres out
of the 200 acres allotted garden land was lost to urbanisation drive. Since then the garden, a landmark on the Dwarka-Noida line as a station is named after it, appears to be stuck between the Noida Authority and the Ministry of Environment

Nature seems to have taken a backseat as the rapidly progressing urbanisation drive had almost killed the already crippled Botanic Garden of Indian Republic (BGIR) in Noida

Mumbai: A citizens' group fighting to preserve the ecology of Aarey Colony forest has mapped 400 trees on the perimeter of a proposed metro car shed to provide people an idea of the massive green damage the project could cause. 

Different city authorities plan to cut down thousands of trees in the colony to build the car shed, to widen aroad and to construct a zoo. Residents from across Mumbai have teamed up to save the trees in the colony that serves as a buffer zone for the
Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Thane: Four groups from Thane city and one from Navi Mumbai have been selected to represent India at the National level of the National Children's Science Congress this year. The competition has been organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology
between December 27 and 31 at Banglore. Thane district has produced the highest number of entries among the state.

KOLKATA: At the East Kolkata Wetlands, Mrinmoyee Naskar has taught dozens of women how to churn out office stationery and 'papier mache' gift items from discarded papers. On Saturday, she will travel more than 18,000km to tell the world how to turn waste
into wealth.

The 23-year-old graduate who lives in a slum opposite Goltala bheri at the Ramsar site is travelling to Lima to showcase the Trash2Cash project at the Climate Change Conference. Trash2Cash features among 12 projects selected as Lighthouse Activities from
across the globe by a UN team as part of the Momentum for Change initiative.
