Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been enforced along NH-37 from Jakholabondha to Bokakhat and areas near Numaligarh in Assam for free and easy movement of animals coming out of Kaziranga National Park during monsoons.

Bokakhat sub-divisional officer, Civil, Dhiraj Das said like in the previous years, this year too section 144 was imposed along the KNP as the water level of rivers Brahmaputra and Difloo is on the rise and most of KNP areas are submerged under water.

Jaipur: Plans are afoot by Rajasthan wildlife and forest department to quickly reintroduce tigers at the Mukundra Tiger Reserve.Though the National Tiger Conservation Authorit (NTCA) had approved the reintroduction of tigers in Mukundra Hills in Kota by
December 2018, the state forest department is planning to do so a year earlier, additional chief secretary (forest and wildlife) Nihal Chand Goyal said."We want the tigers to be reintroduced by December this year," he said.

 Officials of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) will meet Uttar Pradesh government officials to discuss the State’s decision to shift over 400 tanneries from Kanpur.

The previous Samajwadi Party government had told the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2016 that the tanneries could not be shifted, for no land was available. The Yogi Adityanath government has reportedly identified fresh land.

 HARIDWAR: In an initiative to keep the Ganga clean, monks of the Ramakrishna Mission at Haridwar have pledged to not give 'jal samadhi' (water burial) to a sanyasi when he dies as has been their tradition, but to instead cremate the body.

Swami Nityashuddhanand, general secretary of the Ramakrishna Sewashram at Haridwar, told TOI that the practice has been adopted since the past few months in the holy city with a view to ensure the sanctity of the Ganga.
