The government of India's northern Himachal Pradesh state on Wednesday (September 21) raised the incentive for citizens to kill monkeys from Rs. 300 to Rs. 500.

Various attempts, including sterilization, by Himachal government to contain the population of monkeys yielded no results. The incentive was first introduced early this month and is meant to cover the cost of the cartridge or any other expenses which person
might incur in killing the monkey.

ALMORA: In a bid to ensure that tourists flocking to the picturesque town of Almora are not greeted by mounds of garbage, an e-waste collection drive has kicked off here.

Green Hills, an NGO, has launched a campaign to collect all kinds of electronic waste such as discarded computers, laptops, printers, fax machines, mobile phones, chargers, electronic toys, batteries, television, calculators etc so that the waste can be
recycled.

Deputy Commissioner S. SasikanthSenthil advised farmers to go for sustainable and environment-friendly agriculture practices by using municipal solid waste as compost. He was addressing a workshop on the use of city compost in agriculture organised at
KrishiVigyan Kendra, on Thursday. The workshop was organised jointly by City Municipal Council, Centre for Ash Utilisation Technology and Environment Conservation, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur (UAS-R).

Feeding habits of some endangered black bucks in Ganjam district of Odisha is getting changed due to their proximity with humans due to which a few of these deer have started living among human populace.

Due to ignorance, villagers are also making efforts to domesticate them although it is illegal. Ganjam district is a safe haven for black bucks as the villagers do not harm them and protect them. Thus their population has increased manifolds in this region
and they have started to reach out to areas where they were not seen earlier.

NEW DELHI: Giving more teeth to the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) — a central agency which is involved with implementation of the ongoing Gangarejuvenationprogrammes, the government on Wednesday approved setting up of a new body — National Council
for River Ganga — which would empower the Mission to work more independently and directly take action against polluters.

The fire broke out on September 10 in an indigenous community called Pitsiquia, in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, said the National Civil Defense Institute

An enormous fire is destroying vast stretches of the Amazon rainforest in Peru, threatening natives and wildlife, officials said, blaming traditional slash-and-burn farming.
