Based on a survey carried out by the Central Pollution Control Board in 2005, the generation of e-waste in the country was assessed at 1.46 lakh ton and was estimated to exceed 8 lakh tonnes by 2012. As per the United Nations University report, 17 lakh
tonnes of e-waste was generated in the country in 2014.

India is planning to start extensive research on the use of solar power to bring about a “revolution” in this field, Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave said today. Dave told Lok Sabha that during the Paris Climate summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi
had said that there were 122 countries in the world where sunlight was available 10 months of the year.

South Korea's capital of Seoul will limit the number of old diesel vehicles on the roads starting next year, as the country tackles rising air pollution.




Asia's fourth-biggest economy in June announced a string of measures to address growing concerns about air quality following fine dust particle warnings and Volkswagen's emissions-test cheating scandal. Seoul aims to bring its air quality to the levels
of European peers like London and Paris within a decade.

R. Chandraprakash of the Mysore GrahakaraParishat (MGP) said there was not a single voice in favour of cutting down trees, with all the 300 people present at the hearing opposing it. “While the Forest Department report on the outcome of the public hearing
is awaited, we are already consulting with our legal team to prepare the next course of action,” said Mr. Chandraprakash. The public hearing was held to collect opinion on chopping down 48 trees marked for the purpose.
