Ahmedabad: Spare a thought for the traffic police personnel standing for hours in the sun, inhaling fumes, exposed to the dust and noise on Ahmedabad roads.

In the first-of-its-kind study, a team of public health researchers from the Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar (IIPH) and Sri Ramachandra University (SRU) have provided kits to traffic personnel loaded with hi-tech
sensors which will measure the quality of air they breathe and the noise pollution they are exposed to while on duty.

Bengaluru, May.11 (ANI): Thousands of dead fish surfaced in Bengaluru's popular Ulsoor Lake on Tuesday due to rising pollution levels in the lake.

Residents claim that sewage water often finds its way into the lake, cutting down oxygen levels drastically and causing the fish to die.

Kochi: The joint inquiry committee, constituted to look into allegations regarding the discharge of chemical effluents into Periyar by SreeSakthi Paper Mills, has recommended the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to issue the closure notice
again.

Following widespread public protests, the committee inspected the mill and its premises on Monday. On May 4, the pollution board had issued a closure notice to the company. But, it was later revoked.

India generates 18.5 lakh metric tonnes of electronic waste each year, with Delhi (98,000 MT) second on the list after Mumbai (1.2 lakh MT) as the biggest contributor. Proper disposal of e-waste is important because of hazards posed to health by the materials
used in electronics, but almost a third of the disused electronic items are not reaching the authorised e-waste collectors in the capital.
