Ranganathittu is set on a group of islands in the middle of the Cauvery River, about
20 km from Mysore, in south-east Karnataka. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a short
15 km-drive from Srirangapatna. The isolated islets and the abundance of aquatic
insects during the monsoon make Ranganathittu a favorite abode for birds. Ranganathittu
attained the status of a bird sanctuary in 1940, courtesy of the visions of India.
s noted ornithologist. Dr. Salim Ali. who, during his survey of the birds of Mysore,
advocated for the establishment of such a sanctuary. The sanctuary is now a paradise
for wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers and bird watchers.

By Rail: The nearest railhead is at Srirangapatna, 15 km away
By Road: Catch a bus to Srirangapatna from Majestic Bus Stand or do the approximately-3-hour-drive
down the well-paved Bangalore-Mysore Road
