Susan Are you Ajit Seshadri of VVF?
ajitvvf many thanks for including our article on waste-water reuse at vasant vihar
Susan Yes, that is a story which has to be told, I felt
ajitvvf i have met mr. ritwick at an environment day celebrations,
Susan Ritwick is just logging in, I spoke with him
ajitvvf another big issue at delhi is of felling of trees cover, and alternate green cover not coming up causing local warming
Susan Are you referring to Sunder Nagar Nursary?
go2mayil hi all
amlandutta hello everyone
Susan Hi Amlan and go2mayil
Susan Where are you from amlan and go2
amlandutta what are we talking about today,, ?
ajitvvf Hi to all on line, yes susan 7 HCBS corridors coming up at delhi, each to fell atlaeast 3000 trees this is huge devastation in the name of development
amlandutta I am from the Dhamra Port Company Ltd.
amlandutta among my other jobs ,, I have to bring up plantations in an area roughly the size of 500 acres
go2mayil I am from chennai
ajitvvf i am ajit seshadri from vigyanvijay an ngo at delhi doing envrmntl work our website
www.vigyanvijay.org
amlandutta I was at WTI for two years before this working in wildlife enforcement assistance
amlandutta basically a wildlife biologist..
ajitvvf hi amlan, where is dhamra port, iam a marine engineer by profession, now turned an envrnmntl planner
Susan Hi Ritwick, the floor is yours.
Ritwick Hello All !
Ritwick question time starts now !!
amlandutta it is at orissa coast, 60 km
ajitvvf hi Ritwick, just for info how do you address envrnmntl issues, is it by PILs or any thing else,,
Ritwick Mixed one with PIL as well as getting people to effectively engage with environmental decsion making process
Ritwick is anybody there ??
ajitvvf very good, the issues of SEZs is confusing everyone, how does one opt for due developmental gains
Ritwick SEZ legislation subverst all due process and only aimed at the interest of the corporate world
ajitvvf very bad here one sees only corporate's interest and other factors like environment, rural habitats, traditional agricuture is sacificed!!
amlandutta Hello Ritwick da..
Ritwick How are you now that you are on the other side of the fence ??!!!!!
amlandutta ,, yes thats my job even though i am on the other side,, its my mandate to see,, that things work my way
Ritwick Amlan one question...is IUCN doing a study on Dhamra port.
amlandutta ritiwick da, I am sitting in a plane on route to delhi,, plane is scheduled for take off at 8 pm
Ritwick Thats good to know that committed persons like you are there who will keep the interest of environment into account
amlandutta yes ritwick da, it is but i cant say much now till the final report is out,, thats why i didnt respond to the nat hist speculations
Susan If only more corporates became environmentally conscious!
amlandutta we really want to do everything possible,, and i am basically a one man dept and report directly to the CEO , who has told me very clearly
that amlan you can stop any work if it is not happening to ur satisfaction
Susan Go2mayil what is your experience in Chennai?
amlandutta ok ritwick da,, flight is taking off,, will see u in delhi,, hope you would be there,,
Ritwick ok amlan...see you in delhi
amlandutta byee,, time to log off..
ajitvvf we need to have committed and learned persons and including some MPs passionate to environment to tackle issues
ajitvvf bye amlan we will be in touch thro susan
Susan Thanks Amlan. Ritwick can you tell briefly how to go about filing a PIL as a citizen?
Ritwick PIL can be filed by any citizen before the Supreme Court and High Court. One cannoit file if one has a private interest in the matter
Ritwick NGOs and Citizens can file it
Susan VVF -can file a PIL about the felling of trees may be?
Ritwick yes they can if they have done proper research...
Susan pROBABLY THERE IS ALREADY A Pil FILED ABOUT THE FELLING OF TREESN sUNDER nAGAR nURSERY
Susan Ritwick pl say someting about the recent amendments to EIA
Ritwick I have to leave now as I have to prepare for my cases tomorrow
Susan Thanks a lot for coming. and sparing time.
ajitvvf yes susan it sounds fine to file PIL but felling has already started we need a CHIPKO movement revival
Susan Wish more people had logged in. If you can send me a small write up we will publish it
ajitvvf go2mayil hi mayil means peacock any connection
Susan Ajit, I think he has logged off too.
Susan I have asked Ritwick to send a small write up hope we can publish it as a general intro. to role of law in environment. We have to begin
somewhere
ajitvvf susan, metro at delhi is on example of losing of tree cover and complete eco-system with it, we don't even work to plant altrnate green cover,
there is malaysia who goes a bit more to have 2 to 3 year old trees and plant them in new areas with extended care this is real eco-tech which is
welcome, any takers!!

A DIFFERENCE TO DEGRADED LANDS
